Hi this is my first time making a thread so i'm not completely sure what to do.

I've been having lag issues when gaming, at first i thought it was my motherboard, my processor or my GPU but i'm quite doubtful that it was. As now i'm suspecting it's the intense heat issues i've recently discovered, as my computer is 70 degrees on idle. I've even been to the shop where i got my PC from, but when it returned the heat had barely decreased.

It would be great if someone could help me out.

Cheers

Is this the CPU or the GPU idle temp?

If it's the GPU (gfxcard) it's nothing to worry about - although the load temps would be interesting to know.

If it's the CPU that is vey high for idle temps (even load) - what are the load temps? (use Real Temp)

EDIT: If it is the CPU temp i would return it to the shop and get them to fit a decent third party cooler to bring your temps back into normal range. If this isn't an option post back and we'll recommend a suitable cooler and advice on how to fit it.

It's my CPU's temperature,
It's round about 65 or below ever since i returned from the place i got it. I'd rather not check the Load temp, as I've heard of its risk(s).

Are you sure you have correctly applied the thermal paste inbetween the CPU and the heatsink?
Or more properly is there any HSF in there?
Intels since Pentium 4 have been very power efficient at idle and low end L2 cut down Yorkfield is surely among best of those.

Can you post a CPU-Z screenshot just to rule out some random voltage change? Otherwise it sounds like your cpu cooler is a)rubbish b) not correctly mounted with thermal paste properly applied.

What risks? If it runs too hot, it'll switch your computer off. Intel processors have done this since pentium 3 or so. You could turn it on without any heatsink attached at all and it would be unlikely to matter. Wouldn't boot though.

It is completely full of dust? Is your room very hot?

What is the heatsink? Though it's hard to imagine it's worse than the intel stock one, and that does better than 65 degrees idle.

As Jon has stated there aren't any real risks with modern CPU's as they have built in safety features which stop them frying the way they used to, way back when...

That said - i would return your computer to the retailer and get them to fit the HS on properly as you may void any warranty if you start tring to fix things yourself, and you clearly have heat issues.

Better still get them to fit a relatively cheap but decent 3rd party cooler.

/off topic

Hey Jon (Happy New Year) how's your rig - did you get your electrcity problems fixed and reslove your pc issues?

Do they know what they are doing? Friend of mine bought a PC many years ago from a small shop, the guy overcharged him by quite a bit and it developed some fault not long after he had it. It went back, the guy said it was fixed, but there were still problems. My friend who was very cheesed off by this point asked me to have a look. The motherboard was faulty, not might be faulty, clearly was faulty. The guy who owned the shop was a disgrace to decent PC builders trying earn an honest living.

Those temps should not be that high. Is the place where it was bought, trust worthy? Dodgy geezers can fob people off with whatever they like, if the customer does not know otherwise. Did they place a warranty void sticker on the side of the case?

Taking it back to the retailer is probably the best plan, as long as you didn't buy from anyone too rubbish. Hadn't considered potentially voiding warranty by cleaning dust from it, but I've heard of sillier things.

Happy new year to you too man :). Electricity problems were diagnosed as an excessively sensitive circuit breaker. Suspect the sparky didn't know what he was talking about, but then landlord's paying. No issues with the current pair of sockets, nas running off one and i7 system on the other. System is looking solid at 4ghz, 12gb @ 1200mhz cas6. Taking my sweet time over it :s
