Hello,

I am trying to defrag a RAID-1 array on my work backup server but I am getting the following error . . .

raid1defrag.gif

I've tried to run the Check Disk Data thing as sometimes that's helped me get the windows defrag working? . . . It's two Samsung HD501LJ 500GB drives on an older INTEL Socket 478 (ABIT AI7).

I wouldn't mind getting these defragged as they been in constant use for the past year, creating backups, deleting backups etc etc, they must ben fragged up pretty bad . . . . do you think this is a simple glitch or a sign of an underlying problem?

Hello,

I just checked that, they are two large backup files from last week?

You think maybe if I delete them that will kick start the defrag?

it probably can't find enough contiguous space to move the backups into
Ok thanks for that, seems strange as they are both around 80MB which should be fine?

Copying the whole lot across the network atm and then will delete the originals then defrag hopefully . . .if that works I will just make a fresh backup and see how it gets on the next few weeks.

Also try Defraggler. That'll probably do a better job than Windows.
I'll give that a whirl thanks! :)

Good thanks, I just made a reply to you overclocking thread! ;)

Obviously we can't have a general chit chat across these different threads as we need to keep to the topic that the thread is about! . . . at least thats the idea in the Technical forums anyhow! :p

If you wanna have a chit chat with a bunch of mad people then check out the General Discussion forum here where you can talk about anything from what tooth paste is best to where is a cheap place to stay in London etc etc, literally anything!
