Having problems with my i7 920 and 5850 OCing

atm im at

3.8 GHz
181 blk
21x multiplier
1.25V
max temp 70C under full load

im not too fussed about the ram, as these triple channel boards have so much bandwidth ive heard much over 1600 is only really for benchmarking
i use
8-8-8-24 at 1.6V one step under 1600MHz

id like the CPU at 4GHz, but no massive issue, i can accept 3.8GHz, as i said before, i may put the secong pull fan on the cpu heatsink if needs be

graphics card is at 775/1125 stock 1.0V
^will there be any noticable difference going beyond these graphics settings?

Have you tryed 190BLK at that voltage?

And to be honest the higher clock on your GPU might get you an extra frame or 2 but nothing noticeable, better off not overvolting unless you are under water.

Your board isn't really an overclocker's board, but you should be able to get slightly higher clocks than 3.3 GHz

If you really believe that anything beyond 3.3 ghz is a bonus with this board then you need to research more before you wrongly advise another person.

3.8ghz is attainable on this board with a D0 no problem.

Sure is i found i could bench at 4.2, but that was under water.
All X58 boards will overclock its a great chipset obviously some will go higher than others, but you have to weigh up of the extra 400Ghz you MIGHT be able to get from your CPU is worth the extra £50-200

ok by the sounds of it, overclocking the GPU isnt worth it so maybe i wont bother

on the cpu side, i think my final try will be for 4GHz or whatever i can get with temps not hitting 80, i know i will rarely use 100% CPU, and for what i do in the wqay of video encodes, the 1GHZ i already have makes a REAL life difference for those 4 would be nice, it would give another 800MHz across all four cores and just help with the big encodes i do
