hello. i have a radeon HD 7870 and have had it for the past couple months, and it seems that whenever i start up a game it emits this high pitched squeaking noise, and the graphics card jumps to about 64C after a couple of minutes in game. i have also started experiencing game crashes, but that has been at the same point in the same game so i will presume that its the games fault, but im not sure whether to RMA it with overclockers, or just wait for it to break. i bought it back in January, so its not exactly old. i would be grateful for any advice thanks a lot!

64c is very cool for a 7800 series GPU. No worries there.

Regarding the squealing it sounds like capacitor whine. Does it occur all the time or just in the in game menus etc?

the squealing starts as soon as i start up a game (in this case, fifa 13) and the SECOND i shut it down, even if i alt f4, it stops instantly, or within one second. usually it continues on, but sometimes after 30-60 minutes of being in the game it goes away. as you said, in the menus.

It's because your FPS is in the hundreds or thousands. You can try either using a frame rate limiter (I'm not an expert on that but someone should help) or you can enable vsync.

that is absolutely brilliant, i cant thank you enough mate! i thought i was going mental, because nobody else could hear it but me, but now its gone! i thought i was gonna have to replace my gpu, honestly thank you so much! so why was it causing the squealing?

Not sure on the technical reasons why but when cards run at ludicrously high frame rates the capacitors squeal. I've had about 8 cards over the past year (for different reasons) and they've all done it to some degree :).

No worries at all, glad it's sorted.
