having trouble getting android auto to work

first car with android auto

and i thought i set it all up, phone seems to connect
but i get this message

all notifications on my phone are set to allow (on android auto)
not sure what else to do

No idea, I know some early Toyotas had issue with Android Auto and CarPlay, software update usually fixed the problem.

Click on settings (the cogwheel)

At top of screen, click on the magnifying glass and in the Search box, type special access

I am offered an app called Special Access and I click on it.

Then I scroll down to Notification Access.

Android Auto is at the top, and I click the circle to turn it on.

done that, will check if it worked
