Think it costs me more to have my mum on mine too.
My grandmother is on mine. Not that she'd ever drive it
I've been doing insurance quotes for me on a 2002 Saxo VTR I'm thinking of getting.
Me = 18yo male passed 6 months ago.
Dad = ~50 driving forever no points
Mum = ~50 driving forever no points.
Just me:
TPFT: £2247.15 (Quinn Direct through Money Supermarket)
Comprehensive: £3232.69 (Insure Your Motor through Money Supermarket)
Me, with mum:
TPFT: £2016.45 (Admiral through Confused)
Comprehensive: £2324.10 (Admiral through Confused)
Me, with dad:
TPFT: £2143.50 (Admiral through Confused)
Comprehensive: £2571.90 (Admiral through Confused)
Me, with mum and dad:
TPFT: £1916.70 (Admiral through Confused)
Comprehensive: £2185.50 (Admiral through Confused)
That's the results of going through all those combinations on all the comparison sites and lots of insurers directly. It was rather long and boring! But I reckon a quote of £1916.70 isn't too hideous...
It's pretty hideous. That Saxo is a high risk car (or so that's how the insurers see it)
Why don't you look at something else. Focus or a Fiesta??
One intersting stat I found by doing all the quotes, fast forwarding it 6 months to me having a license for a year but still 0 no claims or anything and it drops to:
Me after 1 year, with mum and dad:
TPFT: £1011.60 (Admiral through Confused)
Comprehensive: £1108.20 (Admiral through Confused)
Which is a lot more like it!
At least?
Adding mine makes it go up.
Adding my mother who is not licenced to drive a manual car puts my insurance down by about £100 with mainstream insurers (classic ones don't care, it seems). Funny, seeing as she isn't actually able to drive the car
Why do the insurance cos allow people to do it then?
