Hayes Photo Studio

You want to use them based on their image evidence?
All I'm going to say is that they clearly love that contrast slider!
Theres a couple of really nice shots in there , well composed with decent PP. But most are pretty bad.

The key questions I asked when looking at wedding photographers were in the following order:

1) Do I like there work? (This should be what draws you in do you want your wedding photos to look like the ones on the website)
2) Can I afford them or do I like the pics so much I'm willing to stretch the budget? (If you can't then move on)
3) Did I like them when we met? (This was so important getting on with our togs made the day so much easier)

with a lot of our wedding stuff we went on gut feel when we met people and it never let us down those that we thought would be good were outstanding those that we thought wouldn't be great weren't but we were expecting it!

Ignore the poeple on here slating the companies images they have a style and if you like that style it's your wedding. Don't let others tell you what you want but do get the best you can afford for the given style.

It's not even down to the style, in a lot of the photos they use to advertise their work the subjects look painfully uncomfortable, and there's only so much weight you can give a claim of "Oh it's just that she doesn't like being in front of a camera it's not my fault she looked like she was being held hostage". Style or no, it doesn't change the fact that most of the photos shown don't exactly look like the couple or subjects are having fun, and that reflects on the photographer.

Thanks for the feedback all.

I received a quote which was £5000 for:

- A3 Photobook
- Photoshoot
- Guest book photobook

The quote also contains:

- Videoman and cameraman on the main wedding day, approximately 14 hours
- Videoman and cameraman on the pre-wedding night party, approximately 6 hours
- Videoman and cameraman on a traditional Indian ceremony a few days before the wedding, approximately 2 hours

Please note, this price is the total for the Bride and Groom.

I have met the photographer and I liked his work and got on very well.

Any further comments/contributions that people may have based on my reply?

Thanks.

I suppose that if you're essentially hiring 6 people (looking at the way it's worded), 1 for photography and 1 for video work, for each slot, then it may be worth it. Hopefully they don't mean 1 person will take photos and the odd video at each slot. 22 hours of work would be a hell of a lot of processing, especially to obtain the same level/style of processing throughout.

That's correct, it will be approximately 22 hours of work.

It will be one person taking video and the other person taking photos :)

The photography is nothing special. I'm not going to pick them apart, but those who know what they're looking at will see the mistakes immediately. It's got nothing to do with style or being over-critical, it's just saying it how it is.

That said, if the sample is representative of their work and you are happy with it then it doesn't really matter what we think. There is a lot more to a professional service and you sound like you have a good rapport with the photographer.

If you're unsure about the price get a couple of different quotes.

All I'll say is that since I had my wedding I've looked at the album once and the video once in 11 years.

While you obviously want the confidence that whoever you hire will get the job done, you really need to weight its importance against the rest of the wedding.

£5k is a lot of money, is the record of the day worth that to you? Is that your cash? Are you borrowing to fund the wedding? All questions I'd be asking myself before I dropped £5k on a job that you really might not have needed when possibly £1k could been spent and you could still get the job you wanted done.

Also as above, get a couple of extra quotes it can't hurt anything and you'll get a better idea of what offers value for money to you.
