Hazard Perception video quality

Haha, I remember the hazard perception test, where everything is a potential hazard and clicking at any event seems to get you a pass :)

I've done it not long ago! they use 3d videos now! :) with warnings along the lines of "click too often we will not pass you" ;) basically, click when ever you see anything move in the road.. I passed with 66/75, one video I got 1/5 stars! not even sure where I went wrong as they give you no results per video!

Press control. shift and right click 3 times on the mouse and you will pass with full marks.

:D

They have changed it now, You got to press all the keys on the keyboard at the same time and press right mouse button 7.5 times :-)

I did my test theory and hazard test recently for my Bike test. I did ok got 4 wrong on theory and made a bad start to the hazard part, Go the first two CGI videos totally wrong and thought I had failed and maybe clicked to late/early on others but passed with 58 out of 75. Spent a week on my iPad just practicing with one of these theory/hazard apps. It was nice to brush up on my theory after been on the road for 26 years driving cars.

Took me 3 attempts to get my theory test passed, the actual theory part was perfect; aced it with high marks each time. Really struggled on the hazard perception though! It wasn't that I just wasn't seeing the hazard; more so that the video decided it wasn't actually a hazard yet so I ended up missing it. Then by following the "wait and click a second or so later" you wind up getting low scores for each clip, sigh :o

When I was using these hazard apps on my iPad I thought some of hazards where not really hazards at all and some situations thought that should have been an hazard was not. I don't think hazard perception part of the test is very good.

Maybe a proper computer simulator would be better way for that part of test, But I suspect it would take to long to test everyone and cost too much.

I did this in January and the hazard perception was a lot easier than what I had practiced because it was a sort of 3D rendering they used.

This is what I mean
.

For me the way it is rendered made everything much easier to spot than the real world examples I had done and I passed first time.

I like the look of that, much better than the crappy 4:3, 640x480, VHS converted crap they used to have. Looking at the stuff made my eyes bleed.

I don't think I have ever seen a more stupid and pointless test than the DVLA hazard perception. You pass it by learning the correct clicking technique rather than being great a spotting hazards on the road.

It would be far better to have good quality videos and have the candidate perform a running commentary to an assessor, a bit like the police advanced driving tests, but not actually in a car so no danger of getting distracted.

Absolutely abysmal test. I havent taken it yet but if its anything like the practice DVD. Its so difficult, I spot every hazard but sometimes I get nothing because I didnt click where they wanted me to click and I don't mean I am slow. My perception is spot on. Like someone else said you need to learn the art of clicking the mouse. Also I got called a cheat because the algorithm picked up that I clicked 3 times in a rhythm WTF. Wish me luck.

thread necro ho!

if it's anything like what i went through the real test is much easier than the dvd's, although i guess it makes sense to try something on hard mode if you really want to pass easy mode first time.

funny when i was doing mine i got various freinds and family to test it out when i kept failing- i was twice as good as the best of them lol.

Just did my car theory yesterday, my practice ones (official DVLA) were a mix of CGI and grainy video. The proper test is all CGI. Managed to get 65/75 on hazard perception and 49/50 on the multiple choice section.

I don't believe the image quality is any excuse to not pass it.

Only time I saw one was when doing it ~10 years ago and they weren't being sneaky about anything, it was plenty good enough to see what was going on.

Then you pass your test and enjoy the image quality of heavy rain at night with oncoming headlight glare, multi lane and erased road markings :)

I remember doing the hazard perception test when it first came out and the staff at the test centre did not actually know what you were supposed to do.

I ended up with my instructor telling me one thing and two members of staff telling me two other completely different things.
