Hazel Blears resigns

I suppose it's better than nothing, but why isn't G.Brown firing their a**es down the road ?
This way they all still get the golden handshake and a bumper pension. What's the point ?

This week is just getting better and better :D
As it goes I don't actually like Blears. I think she's insincere, argumentative and totally avoids answering questions directly, so I'm not sorry to see her go. I get the impression that a lot of MPs put in expense claims because that's what the rules allowed, but hers were pushing it a bit too much.

Trouble is, the MPs resigning today appear to be doing so to stick the knife into Gordon - not because they feel any sort of remorse about their expenses. Would be nice to hear a bit of humility from people at the top now and again...

Anyone listen to Mandleson on BBC?

Was funny what he said; something to the effect of "she claimed under one set of rules but was judged by the public under a different set because the public felt that the original rules were not good enough" - which basically means she was judged in the court of public opinion.
Funnily; I seem to remember someone posted an extract of the expenses rules - and it clearly said in the first paragraph that "any claims must be justifiable to the public" - clearly the rules had not changed - the public were simply told of the MPs bending the rules and ignoring the first paragraph of them.

In all honesty that's no different to any Labour MP since at least 1997, and when has Brown or Blair for that matter ever answered a single question honestly? even in Prime ministers question time.
I'm no Labour supporter but it's not just Labour that does this. She was just one of the worst for doing it and seemed to do it in a nasty way, in my opinion.

I hated her smirk!! She was on Question Time a lot and thankfully David Dimbleby always gave her akward questions :) Glad to see her go - just need the rest of them now!
