Hazro HZ30Wie / Dell U3011 comparison

You call the Hazro a budget screen at £594! so not bothered by a dead pixel, i must be on a different page but i don't call that budget.
I think us consumers expect to put up with faults we shouldn't have to, unless a dead pixel is caused by transportation they should be tested in factory.

Guy

It's a budget screen in terms of what is available on the market at 30" IPS with 2560x1600 resolution. It's competition are generally the Dell and HP which are significantly more expensive. I understand what you are saying but you have to compare like for like.

Dead pixels can be a problem on any screen regardless of the cost. Most retailers stipulate that you need at least three dead or stuck pixels before it is considered for replacement. If you don't want dead pixels you either need to be prepared to send back under DSR or pay out for some form of guarantee, and both of these cost. In terms of the Dell the higher price is part of that guarantee.

Hi i thought your 1st part would be the answer i get:)
I just think even at £500+ we should expect more in this day and age even for that size monitor especialy as Britain seems to pay the most for items:mad:

Well got my hazro set up - cant have both my catleap and hazro at the same time regretfully (for somereason they dont seem to come on; maybe its my gpu?). Took me a bit how to figure out how to make custom resolutions in AMDs drivers. Got it finally - so have a option to go to 2560x1440 (when I want to game widescreen). But havnt tried any games yet ...

I feel the viewing angles might not be the best; but little hard for me to tell - checked the screen and didnt notice any pixel problems - maybe some black light from the bottom corners.

the monitor is much bigger/heavier then my catleap; I see what you mean about the AG coating on the white background - I used a asus VW266H for 2.5 years~ before this and the AG coating wasnt bad. This is a bit more then Id like - but might be workable - will test it the next week and see what I think.

again the monitor feels quite big and the dot pitch is much bigger then the catleap (good and not so good); the catleap made things seem so detailed because of the small dot pitch; good for pictures/movies/games but not great for txt.

will test a game and see what I think -
(Im a bit torn as to which monitor I like better as you can tell - I only got it together late last nite so havnt had much time to fiddle with it).
size difference between the 2 screens (wo bezel) hazro30wie - 40.5cm x 64cm catleap 34cm x 59.5cm
so quite a bit more realestate (dot pitch is a bit bigger on the hazro).

wow - just watched this "Diablo III: Wrath - Behind the Scenes of the Animated Short" - and watching that on my hazro makes it feel so much bigger; nice quality.
(my wife knows that the reason I have been upgrading my computer steadaly since our wedding (last year) is for diablo 3 :)

I've now had the Dell U3011 for around five weeks and thought I'd drop a quick update on here.

I'm pleased to say that I've had no serious problems and am still loving this screen. I have four different machines running off it, two on DVI cables, an old linux box on the VGA and my work laptop on display port. It's easy to switch between inputs although there is a little delay compared to my old 22" Dell.

Display Port seems a bit problematic but that may be the laptop rather than the screen. When the laptop goes to sleep the monitor seem to go into permanent sleep mode which I cannot wake it from. I use the laptop screen as a secondary and that does wake up. Unplugging the cable and plugging back in usually fixes it. Annoying, but having my work screen at 2560x1600 resolution more than makes up for it. I don't think I'll need to scroll on a spreadsheet ever again :D

Having just started to play Battlefield 3 I must say the Dell really comes to life. It takes a couple of 3gb GTX 580s to run full resolution on ultra settings and wow, it's just beautiful. No ghosting from what I can see.

All I can say is that I have no regrets whatsoever about buying the Dell. I'm still as impressed as the day I bought it.

My older 30 inch hazro from.when.hazro.was.first taken over is working perfect ;) love hazrooo

I think the point is that the Dell can be purchased ATM with no problems, but the hazro was OK when you got it......

Looks like you were one of the lucky minority.

Cheers for the update derv, glad it's all going well.

Because I got one too! :D

A few teething probs that I mentioned in a previous thread but sorted now and it's great having the extra screen real estate. This may sound wierd, but sometimes I think it's getting smaller. I know it's just the placebo of familiarity; my plasma in the living room "shrunk" after the shock of the size wore off.

I've been toying with getting it proffessionally calibrated (when my plasma is being done) or getting the kit to do it myself. For the pro kit, it's about the same cost as getting a bloke in.
