HD 2950 Pro Specs

Having said that sid, how far apart where the X1300, X1650 and the X1950 released?

Surely them cards where of totally diffrent Tech. As in when the X1300 was released it was top of the range? No?

Thats really not how ATI do it,

Its X1950 series as High/enthusiast
X1650 for mid-range
X1300 for low

This time around is the same
X2900 series for high
X2600 for mid
X2400 for low

I know it doesn't work out nicely price wise but if you look at it like that all the newer parts are faster than previous gen.

In practise OCUK can flog x1950s for cheap which make the x2600 look worse than it is. Then theres also the second hand market as well.

sid

I agree with you on thats how they designed them to be, but the pricing on some cards make them a different class of card.

When the X1300 was released, it was not top of the range, the X850 series were out then which were faster than it.

RV670 is projected to run as fast as the current R600 but with lower GPU temps and TDP

probably priced between $199 to $249.

The important bits :)

As long as we get a decent $-£ conversion.

£175 for 2900 performance sounds good.

Shame about the "projected" and "proberly", but we can hope.

prices don't change the card.

yes u can buy a 1950 for £70 but as no dx10... u can buy a 2600xt for the same price which as dx10. i agree 2600xt dx9 is bit slower than a 1950 but dx10 runs great. i get 35 - 45 fps on 1 card in bioshock dx10

I agree totally and did point that out.

Games performance isn't great in the newer gen but they are better that HD decoding and of course dx10 support.

Well Dx10 and Dx9 run pretty much the same on BioShock, I'm sure if the X1950 had Dx10 capabilities it would still beat the 2600.

Plus the X1950 is faster on everything else.

DX10 has a lower min fps from what I've seen, it's average is still round about the same, but I got lower fps at the bottom end.

well the main tripe iv got with the 2900 series is the power consumption and the heat. as long as performance does not suffer from going to a 256bit mem interface then it looks like on paper ati have a winner on thier hands.

when is the expected date for this though? it needs to be out november time, any later and they risk letting G90 get a strong foothold.

The 9800 series will walk all over it if it's only going to be R600 performance level, will be ok for the midrange though.

Nowt wrong with 50W more power consumption than an 8800GTS, temps aint that bad tbh.

hmm, only time will tell how performance is with half the memory bandwidth.

cant you just get the current card and lower its mem frequency to half of what it is currently?

for ref when i do that to my gtx it goes from about 11k to 9k in 3dmark06. or a drop of 20-25%

ahh good idea that. should give a rough idea on what to expect.

im guessing this new 2950 will be the replacement for the x1950pro.

but u loseing the point, no point saying "if the X1950 had Dx10 capabilities it would still beat the 2600." because it isn't and won't ever be..

as for bioshock i feel dx10 is much smoother.

Nope as its the memory bus not memory speed, the 2950 will be clocked at 1.2ghz on the mem and 800+ on the core i heard but with half the mem bus of the 2900xt.

At 40fps it feels laggy for me, when I stay still and dont move the mouse it feels fine though, dunno why it does it :(.

Nice and confucing now.

A lot of speculations

RV670 is the most controversial chip in ATI’s history. ATI is trying to seduce its partners with some fake news, and legal or not it confuses the market completely.

RV670 is suppose to be the R600 variation with 256 bit memory interface done in 55 nanometre. It will feature 320 stream processors and the PCB will less complex.

DAAMIT also hopes for 800+ MHz clocks and the new chip should have more ROPs but we don’t know exactly how much more. Just to be on the safe side, ATI will call this one a mainstream chip and two of them a high end at least for the time being.
