HD 6950 overclocking/questions etc

ok so ive had a vtx3d HD 6950 for a while now and recently used msi afterburner to push it from its stock 800mhz/1250mhz clocks to 950mhz/1350mhz, but in order to do this i had to up the gpu core voltage from 1100mv to 1200mv, ive tested out a few games with it and it seems to be stable enough but i dont know safe/stable it will be over time as i have not had much overclocking experiance.

If it is safe to do this i want to know if there is a way for me to further increase its clocks WITHOUT flashing it to a hd6970 as i ****ed it up last time and am having to use bios number 2 lol (bios switch set to 2), the sliders wont go any higher than 950/1350.

If there is not a way to further boost my GFX card i would appreciate any suggestions as to testing the stability of my card, thanks! :p

P.S. also i might shoot for another HD6950 and crossfire them up but i swear the crossfirex connector i have wont reach between two cards on my motherboard (it is a crossfire enabled board i think) http://uk.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A88TDV_EVOUSB3/ is it possible to get longer crossfirex leads?

Be careful. I've never used VTX cards but they look, well, cheap.

It's not the GPU core you need to worry about, it's the power stages on the card. Cheap usually means cheap VRMs and cheap capacitors.

Go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner" and open up the "MSIAfterburner.cfg" in Wordpad.

Locate the UnofficialOverclockingEULA option and change it to what I have it to below. I can put my core up to 1200Mhz.

UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1

As for the voltages. Absolutely fine ;). I'm running on 1.2v or 1.225v, Can't remember but that's been since December 2010. As for pushing it further, well the voltages and cooling (more heat = more fan speed/noise) needed for 1000Mhz isn't worth it for most people. If you're under water for your GPU then it might be worth it but honestly, at 950Mhz, you're at a sweet spot. The only thing would be to unlock your shader, that would give you a boost in performance. If you lived in Edinburgh I'd give you my card for peace of mind and take yours away to get your card back to normal.

It is still doable if you mess the first BIOS, I'm sure.

No its a VTX3D card, some weird offshoot of powercolour i think: http://www.amazon.co.uk/VTX3D-Radeon-6950-PCI-Graphics/dp/B004L5XZBQ
You better remove the link!

This will remove CCC limits if you want to play it safe without adding even more volts.

Start with copy and pasting the below load of text into notepad and save as

Remove CCC Limits.reg

After you install the driver inc CCC, then reboot, then double click the 'Remove CCC Limits.reg' and press ok, then reboot again.

This way you just use CCC panel and you can't really fry your card as it won't let you overvolt it, just overclock it without the limits.

Manually set your fan to at least 70% in CCC, I would go for the full 100% myself to be sure, until you get a feel for the card and what kind of temps it gives off.

Try 850/1250, if it's fine, try 860/1250, keep going until you get sparklies/artifacts then back down to when it was fine.

Then start upping the memory to 1270 and add 20 each time, same way as you did with the core.

You can run Heaven to test it as Kombustor/Furmark is mental.

Here is the text to make the reg entry:

Why don't you re-flash over the bad bios?

The CrossFire bridge is designed to fit 3 slot cards, so it will fit from slot 1 to slot 4:
