HD checker

Hi,

Looking for that HD checker people talk about on here which you use at boot up, its apparently the best thing to test a HD with...or have things changed?

If so what should i use, just HD tune in windows?

(Im looking for a bad disc, a laptop my dad has keeps crashing, sometimes turn off then its reporting disc errors at start up but am not sure if that is just generic)

The best tool to use is the HDD manufacturer's own diagnostics program, you'll be able to get it from their site. There used to be links in the sticky, not sure if they're still there or still valid.
