Hi

Unfortunately my mabook hard drive failed! I attempted to mount it using a linux live CD and that failed, so I took it out and plugged it into my desktop and it won't even recognise it - not in the bios or the OS. When it does power up, I can hear a clicking sound.

Is it at all possible for me to recover anything from this disk..?

stick it in the freezer for a few hours in an air tight bag/container with a sachet of silica gel.
then reconnect it to your computer and see if it works. get a place to backup ready, because you wont get much time to get data off it if it works.

if this doesnt work, its gotta go to a specialist data recovery company who charge an absolute bomb.

Its FUBAR'd try get it working and back it up. But then you already made backups of your essential data right? If not,you will from now on.

Data recovery runs in to £1000's so is mainly for corporate organisations. Not worth it for your porn collection unless you value it at £1000's

Thanks - will try the freezer trick and see what happens. There was nothing essential on that hard drive, that was not backed up. ;) The only thing I'd like to get off it are some of my photos.. but they're not worth the cost associated with data recovery.
