I have just bought some HD DVDs (they arrived before the player so I can't test them)... when looking at the reflective side the reflective layer looks slightly deformed/wavy (see bottom right corner of picture next to inner hole of disk). Is this normal?

not sure, but i have seen normal DVDs pressed like that - they seemed to work fine.

Its just slight imperfections in the thickness of the plastic, it doesnt affect the balance of the disk, or the players ability to read the data, as the disk is spinning so fast, there is no effect on the focal point of the laser. Get it on CD's as well.

Thanks for the quick replies:) I was kind of worried as I don't really think I've ever noticed any normal DVDs that looked like that.

Yes all HD-DVD's are like this. I noticed it too, its like water has been spilt on them and gives a wavy shimmer type effect on them thats not there on normal DVD/CD's.
