hd-dvd equiped 360

They won't use that drive for games. It'd effectively mean 10+ million Xbox buyers have been shafted and MS can't afford to do that to their user base.

That's why it would be pushed as a Toshiba device. MS know they have to tread very very carefully and not give anyone any reason to think they're moving from the DVD only stance.

Would be interesting to see a console built into a tv - mind you the design of the 360 would have to be improved cooling wise before you would buy a £1k tv or such with one inside (imagine the hassle of returning the whole tv)

i wouldn't mind IF say a game came out on HD-DVD and then also multi dvd, so there was actual choice and not a forced option, but TBH i think it'll never happen as we are nearly half-way through the 360 cycle and just wouldn't be really needed, virtually all games fit on DL anyway

Kinda reminds me of the panasonic q:

I foresee an XBox incorporated with a HD-DVD drive next year on the back of this however. Weather it will be the game platform, we'll see.

/awaits barrage of "should have had it in the first place" posts

I disagree. The Xbox360 was so cheap on its release because it didn't have it. It would have been another £425'ish console if it had it at the time. It would have also eliminated a 'core' console release.

reminds me of stuff like the mega pc (pc with the megadrive built into it)
without a doubt a particularly stupid idea.

imagine when you get your 3rld's

No specific technical details were given away, and the site also claimed the two companies have been looking at ways to build Xbox 360 technology into big-screen HD TVs.

tbh it should have, but it would have cost the same a the ps3.

hopefully it will be made, then the problems of limited space on a dvd9 can be forgot.
PS3 says otherwise.

The percentage of 360 owners that even have a HDTV is still fairly low, the PS3 has shown it's not the best idea to increase the price by forcing a feature in that the majority or the userbase doesn't need.

The switch from DVD to HD-DVD/Blu-Ray is in a whole different league to the switch from VHS to DVD. The main reason being the extra costs of buying a HD capable tv as well.

I'm more than happy with the Blu-Ray on my PS3 (It's what gets used most at the moment) but it wasn't a good idea to force it on everyone for the sake of pushing a new format.
