Quick question. Can the Toshiba HD DVD players play SD dvd's as well?

afaik only upto 1080i. Hopefully the next gen players will offer 1080p scaling for DVD-Videos.

Region free playback is a must too, and must scale original DVD-Videos.

Isnt DVD res 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL) and HD 1080p is 1,920x1,080? So you realy wouldn't be any benifit upscaling to 1080p as DVD res isn't that high anyway. Just a thought.
