HD grunts

Just built new machine up, with a seagate barracuda HD 320gb, and it seems to grunt a lot mostly when loading stuff.

was wondering if this was normal, and if the fact that having a slow processor in your machine (celeron d, conroe arrives tomorrow) has any influence on this. And am using one of those akasa light ata leads too if thats any help.

The lead won't make any difference. I find hard drives tend to make more noise as they get older but I'm assuming by a grunting noise you are talking about the loading sounds. In which case you could check that the hard drive is secured properly but other than that I don't think the CPU will make much of a difference to the noise the drive makes.

The grunts are often the 'vibes' that go through your case from the drive. You can get some cheap HDD mountings that mount your HDD in a 5.25" bay - they provide enough separation to kill most of this noise.
