Hi im looking for some help. I recently bought a new system and the hard drives i have installed are two raptors (striped) and two seagate 320gb as storage.. They all work ok and i dont have the dreadded noise issue as mine are quite as mice, The issue that i do have is that i quite often use memory sticks a lot for transfering files around and once i have transfered what i want i go to the little icon (bottom right near the clock) to disconect the memory stick only to find that i have to hunt for the item im disconecting as all my harddrives also appear in the removable items list..

Why would these drives appear here? they never use to on my old system?
Is there anyway to take them off the list?

(Im using XP pro on an evga 680i motherboard)

SATA is a hot swappable protocol so the drives will be shown as removeable devices. Some early SATA implementations didn't fully support this hence why your previous machine didn't show them. I've no idea if you can remove them from the list though.

If you're using memory sticks they'll be optimised for quick removal and hence you can just yank them when you're finished, no need to explicitly stop them.
