Don't know a lot about hard drives, but i ran HDTach/HDTune and came out with some wierd results.

I compared it with the WD74GB in the database, and my results dont seem right. Is there something wrong? Can i fix it?

PS. Tried it with two different WD74GB raptors, same results. Makes me think i have them setup wrong.

PS. Ive passed the tests on the WD Dignostic tool, but still have low results.

There's something definitely wrong with the red trace. Normally I'd say that the drive was running in PIO mode but the CPU utilisation isn't high enough for that.

It'll be the on board controller more then likely. Try updating the chipset drivers, also check if any of the jumpers on the drive are in the wrong place. Though saying that if you've tried two separate drives it points to a driver/config issue motherboard side and not with the drives themselves.

Thanks for your help. Im pretty new to the hardware side of computers, so im not sure what the right way of the jumpers is.

PS. Installing Chipset drivers off gigabyte website.

I'm unsure about your drive, but on my 36GB Raptors the jumper is set far right which is labeled as disable Spread Spectrum Clocking. I am using the old 8MB cache ones though so it may well have changed.

A quick google should answer it, I'm just reading through some sites now.

I installed all the motherboard drivers, but i'm still getting sub-10mb/s results.

The jumpers are also on the disasble SSC pins.

Like you said, the results are exactly the same on two different raptors, so must have something wrong somewhere.

Any more ideas will be greatly appreciated, i also found out that is it the 8mb (2004) cache version.

EDIT: Here are my results from SpeedFan online test, they look really good, but i my burst limit is still sub-10mb/s.

If you go into Device Manager and look at the properties of either the SATA controller or it's individual channels (can't remember which has the info) you should be able to find out what ATA mode the drive is running in. That should be a starter for ten as to what the problem is.
