Hi,

A friend has asked me to find him a HD projector for around £1500

Can anyone help as I do not have a clue?

thanks in advance...

cheers!!!

can I have 2 specs pls

1 for a) projector, screen, mount and cabling and
2 b) just for the projector?

Like I said I dont have a clue I dont even know if option 1 is realistic and will get him a nice bit of kit??

Thats why I have broken it up a bit after your question...

Either way all help would be most appreciated...

whats better?

Optoma HD72i or HD infocus in76??

Is that bang of buck? Will he be getting the best deal around for his money if he goes for either one of them?

Please advise

I don't think you can go wrong with either of them as they are both award winners. the infocus is newer and very sexy in the piano black finish so gets my vote :)

Give creative audio a ring, they are fantastic people and will give you loads of free advice without pushing the sale.

Neither are as good as the AE900. I say go for that, its around £900 and is pretty good for a digital.

Add an electric screen and cabling and the budget will be just right.

can u guys clarify something pls:

i noticed your all asking about cabling does this mean you dont get cables with the projector?

if i go for just the screen then do I get cables?

whats the diff between lcd and plasma?

u speak about a mount? a mount for what exactly?

i cant seem to find any of the projectors or screens you are mentioning...

whats better? a projector or the screen?

pls pls pls help...

A projector is a small thing that fires an image out, you preferably need a screen for it to fire on.

You dont get cables with projectors, you will need long cables to run to the back of the room where the projector will be mounted. You will also need a mount for the projector unless you want to sit it on a table.

Go into comet and ask them if you really dont understand anything about how they are set up or work :)

not wanting to sound rude, but if you are both unsure of the hd projector market, why are you helping/ being asked to help your friend.

My reason for asking is, installing a projector system will demand compromises. For instance, a temporary system, i.e. projector on a coffee table, temporary fold out screen is a faff if it going to be used regularly and needs somewhere to store it when not in use. A permanent system with fixed mounting of the projector and motorised screen involves room compromises, possible decorating/ light structural work and potential difficulty in hiding wires etc.

Your friend is the only one who can work out which of these options is preferable. They need to talk to the experts and come to the decision themselves once they understand the pros and cons of the situation.

thanks for that very helpful indeed...

I guess he came to me becuz he thinks I know about this kinda thing - ALTHO I told him I dont...

However what you have just written re: projectors is a great start...

Can you do the same for screens as well?? A little explanation..

On a seperate note what is the diff between LCD and PLASMA screens?

Thanks a lot you guys are great :)

The question regarding LCD and plasma is fair enough (although i suggest you google it really for a better illustration), but how can you possibly not know what a screen is, have you never been in a meeting or a lecture where they have used projectors, i am very confused

www.drhscreens.co.uk

It's like the overhead projector you had at school, you need something to project the image on. A regular wall won't cut it so you need a proper screen just like in a cinema.

LCD can be a projector type of a regular TV screen, plasma is purely a type of TV screen.

If your stuck on the basics wikipedia is always a help.

no u've misunderstood...

I meant tell me the diff between a LCD screen and a Plasma screen

Perhaps I am using the wrong terminalogy

Yes I have seen screen when used with projectors lol...

One minute you're asking about projectors and the next about plasma screens which are completely different.

The difference between LCD and plasma screens is technical waffle, like I said have a look on wikipedia.
