I'm putting together some parts for my first rig and am finding the HD a tricky customer, as I'm running a very tight budget.

I already have an external HD of 300GB spare that I could use as a temporary solution (until prices come down, in a few months?). This is an SSD connected via USB. I guess installing the OS on this is a feeble notion though, the rig will just run very slow right?

In the short term I don't need lots of capacity. My friend suggested just getting a 250gig (as opposed to my original 1TB), but from what I've seen the price difference is little and still very high anyways.

Anyone got any ideas or products to recommend? I think it likely I will just end up buying a well performing 250gig in a few weeks as I'll just want to get the thing up and running proper.

Any advice for a noobertron gratefully received

I'm actually just learning some Linux at my work, so I might consider it..... as I'm using it for gaming though it's probably unlikely...
hadn't thought of 'data dieting' :D, might give it a try

Cheers. I haven't got such a tight budget now cos this morning a tax rebate notice was sent to me. They're sending me a check for it soon supposedly, bloody treat me :)
I wont be a headless consumer though, I'll spend just a little more on the rig, then save some, and the rest I'll ***** on celebrating over Nys.
Going to buy a used 250/320 gb HD for a good price methinks
