What tools do you use to test a suspect drive? I've only ever used the manufacturers test utilities, and am wondering if theres anything else.
A friends laptop is acting up, and I found disk errors and some data corruption on the drive. I was getting one of those unsolvable MS hex errors, and decided it was time to wipe the machine then spend days trying to resolve the error. The error could have been due to a failed windows update and a forced hard reset of the machine. But then it could be a hardware fault, most likely on the drive. Reformatting the machine NTFS seems to be hanging at 15%.
Of yeah preferably tools that you can run from a bootable CD.
