HD2900XT to LCD. Quick audio question...

Hi, just a quick q about the above, I've had a look around and can't seem to find a definite answer.

I'm thinking about buying a LCD soon and will be planning on running the PC through it using my HD2900XT. The card came with a DVI to HDMI adapter but I have an aversion to using adapters if possible and seeing as I'll have to buy a HDMI to HDMI lead anyway I am thinking of just buying a DVI to HDMI lead. They're about the same price and it saves using the adapter, so there's one less link in the chain.

Now my question is, if I do it this way will I still get audio over the HDMI? Or does the DVI to HDMI adapter do something that a straight DVI to HDMI lead won't?

The reason I ask is that all DVI to HDMI leads I've seen advertised say they will not carry sound. But they all seem to have the full set of pins at the DVI end.

Also will it all still be HDCP(?) compliant?

1. No - The adapter does audio over HDMI, there are no DVI HDMI leads that carry audio as well AFAIK.
2. Should be.

I tried using a normal DVI>HDMI cable and didn't get any picture, let alone audio! As far as I'm aware, you need to use the ATI dvi>hdmi adater as this is nearly garaunteed to work. I've currently got my 3870 connected to me 23" lct tv via hdmi using the ati adapter adn I get sound and picture but you have to download and instal some hd audio drivers from the ati/amd site (they're listed in the sdditional downloads I think which apply to the 29** series of cards.) I can now run me entire computing over hdmi, that includes gaming also with audio in all applications.

i got a dvi>hdmi adapter with my his hd2900xt, you not get one too? im sure there are easy to obtain, if not try mm, as that's where i got my card, lots of bits and bobs on sale there.

Yep, I did get one, with a HIS too! Just wondered if I would be able to find it or not and good news, I have now. One thing I'm def not short of is DVI to VGA adaters, got those things coming out me ears.
