HD2900XT won't compete with GTX

Well... I can't link it (otherwise I'll probably be banned) but I know of at least one site listing the Asus flavour of the 2900XT (EAH2900XT/G/HTVDI/512MB PCIe RADEON) @ £260 inc VAT.

Gift.

Aye I agree, those prices are about right. Even the top 20 schmoogle search will find it easily. £260 will will be average price.

Just to be clear, I'm not pre-ordering anything before I see post NDA benchmarks (I'm not that daft). I really just don't see any reason to doubt that price tag. I'm sceptical whether ATi could sell much higher as they really would sink this GPU, even if it is the best thing since sliced bread, and with 512mb of RAM plus all the other trimmings I can't see this card being much cheaper than the 640mb flavour of the 8800.

Gift.
As I've said repeatedly, judging from the prices in Europe it could be as low as £230-£250. But there's often a release premium, give it awhile and the prices usually settle. What I said, is that having bought many a card on pre-order. There are a few firms advertising the XT, who ALWAYS advertise the cards before anyone else at lower than THEIR final prices. I had a GTX on pre-order for less than £400 when it came out, I knew it would never happen. And it didn't.

Rumours circulating that some newer drivers are giving 20% improvements in some games.
I very much doubt that the reviews will have those, so even when NDA is lifted you might not know the true picture !

8.38 apparently.

8.37 vs 8.38

Why do they do that? It ages the card something awful after a bit.

Ok, so I went the tech preview last night at Shine in San Francisco.... and AMD / HardOCP Preview
They gave away a nice giftbag filled with a few goodies including a full retail copy of Windows Vista Ultimate, a swiss army knife kit for the tech geeks. And they were also giving away xbox360's with the new HDMI interface. On top of it...Free Booze and food for all :-)
From the product demos that I saw. I came away really impressed. The "R600", which we will be hearing about over the next few days is really cool. And the starting price of the card will blow you out of the water as compared to Nvidia (Much Cheaper). The Physics portion of the card will also be really cool. The tech demo was AMAZING. I think this product will blow Ageia out of the water.

So basically this card is gonna rock... if you spend all your time 3DMarking at low res :(

Well it might not compare well to a GTX, but it should beat a GTS in most cases (ie not stalker...), for a similar price.

Wasn't it a GTS you were looking at anyway? r600 might be a nice buy in that case...

Aye... anything longer won't fit in my case :p

At this point I feel obliged to buy an AMD card no matter how poor it is, just to help keep the company afloat!

Yeah yeah...

We all know the real reason you want the radeon is so you can plaster your case with your homemade fanboyesque badges :p

you mean you didnt go out and buy vista so you could get halo2???

Wait for the flame wars to begin when people start benching this demo on the nvidia rigs and comparing to the ATI ones... even though its obviously going to be a 1 sided affair

I have a P180 knocking around (assuming you're talking about the case in your sig) and the GTX will fit fine if you remove the upper HDD rack. Or is your PCI-E slot mounted super high so the card interferes with the 5 1/4 inch bays?

gt

That's assuming they fix the nVidia Vista drivers ;) Although I hear that's todo with the monitor support..
