HD3850 - Problems

I'm getting very choppy framerates with my HD3850 and using search found it's possibly due to the drivers dropping the core speed.

Fired up rivatuner and indeed the GPU use/Core speed jumps up and down like a yoyo.

The post mentioned using rivatuner to fix the problem but can't see how to do it. I'm using the very latest ATI drivers (8.3) which I installed to try to fix it.

Can someone please point me how to use rivertuner to cure the problem and/or another solution.

go into the hardware pane, lowlevel overclock, pick the desired clocks, save them and set to load with windows.

Darn still gettting some wierdnesses.

As far as I could tell the clocks are now stable but I still get periodic frame rate stutters. Not as bad as before but still annoying.

Any ideas?

Here's the problem as it happens, at the time I was doing some car racing on an oval so the graphics where consistant througout and suddently, as you see, the GPU use takes a nosedive.. although the overclock seems consistant.
