HD555-HD595 are the same??

If indeed there is no difference at all, that both phones get the same quality of driver, then it is quite shocking to think people buying the 595's aren't getting better quality drivers, for their extra money paid. £40-50 extra for what exactly?

It may be that they are the same drivers... however I compared my 595 to my friend's 555... and having listened to the 595 for about 6 months, I have to say that they sound better. than the 555... for me at least...

Sennheiser are becoming a joke. I read more and more about their scandalous prices. Glad I went for the 555s and not the 595s after reading this.

Would be interesting to know if the 555's do get not up to par drivers, that don't qualify for the 595's, or if it's solely down to the housing construction. Suppose we will never know.

ATi did, or probably still do something similar. Maybe it's standard for many companies. An older line of their cards, they used the same chip for the top model and for a lesser model. The chips that didn't make the grade go into the lesser model.

Problem with that is that if your 595 breaks, then you will get a "none binned" driver as a replacement as the spare parts are the same for both headphones.

So either way, you are being screwed as a 595 buyer.

Drivers breaking is very rare (if even that), the only thing that does commonly break is the headband so no driver replacement needed for that :p
