HD5870 CF, stuttering!

Need some help, using 2x HD5870 and all my games have this annoying stutter with crossfire enabled, most noticabley in kombuster.

Is this caused by using the 16x and 8x pcie slot? I was getting the same problem before when I was using 2x16x but it seemed to go after a driver update.

Could this be a power issue?? Using a Corsair TX 750W.

should be ok with 750w, mine seem ok

I'll try with the first two 16x slots again but I don't see why using 16x + 8x would cause stuttering like this.

Annoying because it was working fine last night, then thought lets move the card down one to reduce heat, argh, this better fix it.

EDIT: Sorry I should have said re-installed the driver and I've already tried this with no luck.

well if it was working fine then you moved the card and it stopped working fine....... do i need to finish? :p

Still stuttering in the 16x slots, I've only been testing this since yesterday so it's possible the stuttering was never fixed but I was able to play a few game last night without any problems.

Would using different cards cause this? using Asus and Sapphire? :(

Ok, so I tried disabling and re-enabling crossfire like i've done a few times now which has has made no difference, however this time when disabled crossfire I lost the desktop backround and aero, then turned crossfire on again, got aero back and now the stutters gone. WTF ??

Gonna try a restart, see if it stays gone, I hate crossfire.

Nope stutters back after restart.

Might be worth flashing the Sapphire with the Asus bios?

Which one? the older one from the thread? would it work if I just saved the bios from my Asus card flashed the sapphire with that?

Only asking because the one on the thread is the bios from launch.

Are they the same clocks? tried different display type connection cable?

Yes the cards clocked the same, why would it be anything to do with cable?

Anyway, I've flashed a sapphire card and the stutter is still there, nothing to do with the bios.

Read a few threads where people changed DVI cable or the connection port and it's stopped but might not be in this case.

do you use msi afterburner ?
if you do, and you have ATI CCC running at the same time it WILL cause stuttering.
Dont know why, but I had this with my 5870 xfire, tiny stutters.
disable CCC and just have afterburner running.
Im usre this will solve your issue.....it did for me, and I was glad I figured it out, I think BigBruserAl pointed me on this..

Same, less visable in game but it's still there and noticable.

Well it's a very slight but constant like it's skipping a frame, I can't see CCC running in task manager.

hmmm very strange !
i was kinda hoping you did have CCC running as im alnots 100% sure that would be the prob, but as you dont have it running im lost now ???
