which soundcard out of these two

1. HDA Digital X-Mystique
2. HDA Digital X-Plosion

i will be connecting it to my a/v reciever with toslink my uses will for games, movies and music

so which one will be best, its a dolby digital 6.1 amp with dts

only real difference between the 2 cards is if you want DTS encoding or not.

the mystique only does DD but the x-plosion does both DD and DTS. I'd love an x-plosion cos i prefere DTS to DD but i think the price of them is a bit high, especially when considering thats pretty much the only difference and when compared to how much i spent on my mystique lol (£35 when they were on offer here a while ago)

Well neither do 6.1 (5.1 DD or DTS) so unless you absolutely can't live without DTS get the X-Mystique. Both are way overpriced though, £85 is practically daylight robbery for what the X-Plosion is.

cant think of any? but surely if you fed your amp a 5.1 signal it would be able to decode it and then send it out over all the speakers? bit like pro-logic for example??

dunno if it would as ive never tried?? always been happy with 5.1

EDIT: upmixing was the word i was thinkin of lol. im sure your amp would up-mix it to 6.1

Mine recieves the 5.1 and i just upmix it to 7.1 on a set of Gigaworks S750s. Not ideal but it works :)

Oh, and ive got the Turtle Beach MontegoDDL, essentially the same as the X-Mystique (same chip).

is this what you mean

Yup.

In which case I'd go for the X-Fi Xtreme Music (OEM) and connect it up using those ports.

It'll sound a lot better in supported games (e.g. BF2, Quake 4) and is about the same price as the X-Mystique.
