Hi, im looking to buy either a 19inch or 20inch monitor (wide screen). it will be used for a lot of movies and games so looking for the high end better panels (not TN). However, since i will probably be spending £250+ i dont want to have to buy a new monitor soon.
With vista coming soon and blueray with its HDCP encryption i would like to buy a new lcd that supports this for future proofing.

Apart from the dells (which have a too high ms of 16ms) does anyone know of any good tft's that meet my requirements for gaming/dvds? Even if its not out yet as i don't mind waiting a month or two.

Many Thanks

What is wrong with 16ms for gaming/dvd? I have 2 of the Dell 20" WS and I have had no problems what so ever with ether!

The 16 ms is likely a black to white measurement as opposed to grey to grey. I've read a lot of TFT reviews as I'm in the same boat (looking for a well rounded 20") and the Dells seem to do nearly as well as the other 20" monitors when it comes to responsiveness in games. They're not quite as good, but according to reviews, it won't be noticeable or bad. They also come with better colour calibration straight out of the box and wider viewing angles.

The only monitor I know of that supports HDMI signal aswell as DVI which is most probably what you want is the BenQ 24 Inch which isn't out until mid-September. It's bigger then what you want unfortunately and will cost twice your budget.

Its a myth that there's no motion blur on the Dell. Its apparent when testing using PixPiperan, and there's noticeable motion blur when watching sports programmes - particularly football matches - where there;s a lot of panning motion by the camera.

there's a list of screens which have HDCP support over DVI available here. There aren;'t any available at the moment with HDMI connections though

Thanks for that while the 24inch is too big for me due to the native resolution 'issue' of TFT's i dont want to go over 21inch due to performance issues in gaming.

I've also found the Samsung SM940BW which is also HDCP compliant and at a very good price.

I'd prefere the Gateway FPD2185W as it seems like an excellent monitor however, you don't seem to be able to buy them outside of the USA maybe, one for overclockers to get and be an exclusive seller?

You can actually set games to run at certain resolutions (using fixed aspect ratio, or "centered output" - the options are in your nvidia drivers if your using a nvidia card, not sure about ati cards), which will just create a black area around the res you have chosen. Check this thread, there are pictures of what i mean on page 3:

and it will help explain it ;)
