HDD and SSD...Need help!

I'm using an SSD for OS and important programs, and HDD for everything else (documents, music, etc.), but I'm having a problem with getting everything to install in the right place.

The question is: How can I make EVERYTHING install on to the HDD by default? At the moment most things tend to try to install themselves on the SSD, and changing everything by hand is really getting tedious.

I want to make my HDD do everything except run windows.

Thanks!

it can't be that tedious surely? how many programs do you install per day...?

i've already got all the programs i need except more games, which all download through steam to the steam folder anyway

This.

I installed Windows on my SSD and set up my HDD to take steam games and programs I barely use.

So in the last week I have been installing everything as I need it again from a fresh install of Windows and it hasn't bothered me, takes about 4 seconds to point it to where you want to install it.

I know it seems like a lot but most of that is Steam, my point was in reply to Buchanans post about missing the point of SSD's.

I have my OS including my documents and some programs on my SSD, this alone increases overall system performance without spending several hundred pounds on a large SSD. Just because I have a shed load of other programs, most of which would only benefit from a faster load time on a HDD does not defeat the purpose of an SSD at all.

OK, I guess with programs it's not too much of an issue, but how can I change the location of the Windows 7 'Libraries'?

I have my documents on my D drive and when you click (example) start --> Pictures there is a little line of blue text which says "Includes 1 location" click that and just direct it to where ever you store you're pictures and do the same for documents and music :D

Fyi you can use a live link in widows to shift things like steam games to the hdd but have steam installed on the ssd (it doesn't realise they're on a different drive) which tends to save a ton of space. You can actually move them to a nas if it's fast enough :)

Sorry about quality, just a random pictures I found online. I am in work so only have XP . . . but this is the bit I am talking about.

Who said anything about you and your 245GB of imaginary programs :p

The OP said he wanted to install "EVERYTHING" (IN CAPITAL LETTERS MIGHT I ADD) except the OS onto the HDD.

This is of course missing the point of an ssd... where the programmes (not games) are supposed to be stored on the SSD.

Spending all that cash on an SSD, just so your OS boots 5 seconds quicker and you can launch 100 instances of firefox in 4 seconds (WHICH NO ONE WILL EVER EVER DO) seems a waste of cash to me.

So... why even mention what your supposed to do with 245GB worth of games... obviously you would store them on your HDD... I never said anything to contradict that.
