I have an old HDD which, on occasion would start clicking very loudly until reboot.
It was in an old laptop that I stopped using but I have use for it now and decide to check it's health.
It wasn't good.

I did a bit of googling and people suggest zero writing the drive, so I formatted it with the following command:
Left all day and night and it completed this morning. The new SMART analysis is now clean.

It will be going in my new laptop as the media storage drive, holding the 3rd copy of my data (so absolutely nothing is not redundant).
Are we back from the brink, or just out of the frying pan?

your hard disk has 1454 pending sectors (this value is very large and your hard disk should be replaced).
