HDD bad sector?

i recently aquired a 250gb sata seagate HDD from an old computer. i connected it up and formated it and can see read the drive. but when i try to do an error check it hangs at a certain sector. is this a bust hdd or can anything be done?

You can try software like SpinRite and HDD Regenerator or using the manufacturers utility to lock it off or make sure it is an actual bad sector. But personally when I get a bad sector I stop using the drive.

its not going to be for anything critical, im not sure what to use it for. ill try those utilities and see what happens

found a number of bad sectors at the beginning of the drive, ah well it was worth a try.

what is the best way to dispose of a HDD
