Hi,

Can anyone assist, I have a laptop with a 120GB HDD that has started sounding unwell, it contains my OS (Vista). I have purchased a new 500GB HDD to replace it, at the same time I purchased a SATA -> USB caddy and was planning to use Acronis to clone the old drive to the new.

HDD has arrived, however the caddy has not

I would just wait for the caddy, but i'm going away for a couple of weeks and need the laptop along with the data. My laptop came with no recovery disks, only the inbuilt recovery partition.

Can anyone think of a means of cloning the HDD or at least getting Vista onto the new HDD ?

I have at my dispoal 2 laptops, perhaps I can install the HDD into the other laptop and clone across a network ?

Got a computer with SATA ports handy? If its just a normal laptop SATA hdd the connections are the same, just put both your hdds in that machine and clone it, you'll need two SATA cables and power connections obviously.
