HDD Cloning Help

Hello all.

Recently I purchased a Western Digital Caviar Blue 640GB.

Now what I wanted to do was copy all my files over from my old 160GB HDD to this new one... and then to carry on as normal.

I thought something like Norton Ghost would just simply copy them over and then id be able to use my new drive as my Bootable HDD.

Either I've gone wrong, I've missed something or it just isn't possible. I copied my files over and replaced my old drive in my PC. It gets as far as the windows loading screen... finished loading ans then displays the windows logo, and stalls. So i cant Log on.

Any advice will be much much appreciated

what program did you use?

what make hard drive do you have? i think seagate/maxtor do a free version of acronis true image, which will do it for you

Have you changed from an IDE drive to SATA?

hi m8 i just did exactly the same but trying to ghost onto a raid array i used norton with no joy, i have succesfully done it using paragon partition manager 9.0, works a treat

Acronis Migrate Easy has a fully functional 15 day trial if that's any help...

I used the 'Copy My Hard Drive' feature of Norton Ghost.

Copied from a Hitachi to a Western Digital.
