hey guys

i figure there is no better place to ask then on the overclockers forum so here goes

2 days ago my WD Caviar Blue 1TB (WD10EALS) had a big lovely crash. with no backup setup (idiot, but already sorted out for the future) i need to get what is on the drive back

now the drive still works. it still powers up, is recognised by the pc n wotnot but its horribly slow. i was able to copy 30mb off of it in an hour.

any advice? i figure someone may know what the problem is from that description

all help hugely appreciated

30mb in an hour, id only have about 300 done by the time i woke up! and for some reason when its connected, it kills the pcs entire speed too. everything struggles

i dont dare try the "fix" internetz mentions. oven, freezer, slamming it, who even tried these?!

im wondering too, if anyone could recommend a place to take/send off too. i do have a replacement drive it could all be dumped onto. i dread taking it to pc world. all i ever hear is that they suck!

Sounds like you'll need a new drive anyway, which you'll need to set up you OS on etc. Once that is all set up you may find you can read from this drive more quickly as a data disk when it isn't also acting as boot disk?

Of course, maybe it'll be just as slow.... :(

it is. if i boot up from the drive, itll start, but take about an hour.

if i put it as secondary, thats when i can SOMETIMES see it and maybe look inside it. it even takes ages to open a folder or anything

was really hoping someone would have an idea of what was wrong. it feels like its something someone would

as for replacing the drive, already done. id just love to get some stuff off of it

I'm sure someone will have better ideas, only super-slow disk access problems I've had has been a result of AV software messing up. That said, I've not seen AV cause a single HDD to slow down while others are fine so don't think its that :(

just using windows to copy. right click, drag, copy, yknow? :p

You obviously did`nt look at the link I posted.

Easus Partition Manager when installed, allows you to copy/clone any drive/partition and copy/clone to another drive. I copied/cloned a dodgy drive(over 800GBs of games) to a new drive over night. So when I turned on my system the next morning, there was all my games on the new drive and ready to play.
