HDD Diagnostics

I have two maxtor sata hdd (identical) that im trying to raid and the mirroring keeps failing, I've changed the motherboard already and I have a suspicion there may be a problem with one of the drives.

Whats the best utility I can run overnight that will diagnose this? Will Maxtors own be adequate? what else can I try?

PowerMax [Maxtor's own] should find any problems. If everything comes back tickety boo, it may be some hardware fault not detectable using a software utility.

it wont see my sata controller

theres seagate tools which work fine for me... not sure if it supports sata drives though
