Hi, think my Seagate HDD is on its way out. On booting a couple of weeks ago I got an invalid system disk message and Checkdisk has started trying to run everytime i startup though it doesnt seem to find any problems.

Checked event viewer and found a few occurances of the following message:
the file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable run chkdsk

Havent had any problems with losing or currupt data on the drive, a few crashes while running games but id assumed that was a problem with the graphis card now im not so sure.

So far HD Tune and Seatools havent found anything, are there any other tools/tests worth trying before i replace?

It sounds like software rather than hardware.

I would suggest that you backup the disk using a file level backup utility (not a disk image). Reformat the disk and reinstall Windows, and then restore your files.

I suspect that will solve the problem - it is a little drastic but less so than replacing the disk entirely.

And don't forget to backup regularly just in case there is an underlying hardware fault!

Cheers Matthew, dont have a great deal on the machine so I'll give format/reinstall a go. Got an external disk to back up to so it shouldnt be too much of a problem even if the drive does wind up dying.
