I'm think of transitioning over to a laptop only setup but my current PC has 3 HDDs that I would like to be able to access. Is there an external HDD enclosure that can accommodate them all? Also network access would be a bonus but not unless the cost is too high in comparison to just the caddie.

A three disk solution is going to be pricey whether it's a NAS or not, if you can condense the data onto 2 disks it'll make life easier.

Even for 2 disks you're looking at 3 figures for a NAS enclosure whereas for a shade over £30 you can get an Akasa Due Dock 2. I use a single drive version for backups etc and it's great for swapping between disks which might be handy if you need access to all three.

I see thanks, I might replace one with a larger drive to condense them and probably forget the NAS route.

Another question about the Akasa you suggested, how does it work in terms of powering the HDDs? Is there a built in power supply?

I have the Akasa now and it works great. I just have two questions:

1) How does it fair with the drives being changed often and

2) Is it safe for the drives to be out in the open as they are when plugged into the dock?

1) No problems with swapping so far although I've only had it about 9 months.

2) Just make sure you don't let anything metal touch the electronics on the back of the drive and it'll be fine.
