Hdd error advice req? Also spec me a new hdd...

Hi,

Last night I was working again in an application and the pc was really slow and horrible which is usual as my pc / pc's are always really quick....Anyway I thought as I had been connected to the net for several days I would reboot....
So after rebooting my system hung at the XP screen and then went into auto chkdisk......stating some sectors were unreadable....So I start to think my hdd is dieing....

Tried various ways to revive it but failed, eventually loaded up Bart PE which enabled me to back up loads of stuff etc

I tried to format the drive and re install windows but when formatting as NTFS system it stopped at 7% there is a funny sound also i.e. I can hear the drive searching - clicking away followed by a high pitch sound...hmmm? any ideas what its doing?

Anyway I need a replacement about 160g minimum and 250 - 300g maximum...However I dont know if I should go for a SATA drive or just a standard IDE? Is there much difference? Performance and seeking wise?

I need reliablity and low noise......I detest maxtors

Please can you help me decide on what HDD to go for?

i thought sata spins at 7200rpm same as IDE drives????

I was thinking of going for the samsung spin point 300g?? what dya reckon?

Or do you think I should go seagate barracude instead?
