I have a Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB (7200rpm) recently i have been getting rather a large amount of BSOD and windows taking a while to load and also after every BSOD i get a black screen with a windows registry.

I have ran Memtest86 passed

Graphics card test all fine

Ran HD Tune pro and in the health monitor i have status: Warning

(C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error count
Current: 200
Worst:200
Threshold:0
Data: 2066
Description: Number of interface communication errors: 2066
Status: There were communication errors. This may be caused by a damaged cable.

Error scan come back as OK with scanning speed 56.8MB/s

That's probably not the problem, you can trigger the SMART CRC error count simply from an unstable computer crashing or unexpected power cut it doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong with the hard drive itself, the hard drive simply has no way of knowing if outside factors caused the error in transmission.

Thanks for the replies, i have ran an extended version of the WD Lifeguard and it all passed :) so i am taking its not my HDD! I am beinging to think i have a dodgy Windows file as i am constantly getting updates icon and random crashes always follow with configuring updates .

Anyone have anymore ideas??

I had a dodgy SATA cable and it didn't do anything other than cause windows to hang at the logo.

If you were me, I'd be wondering how you could possibly isolate the problem but would start by putting the HD in someone else's pc and doing a test from Windows.
