HDD for backup

Hi all. I am new to all of this storage thing and backup.
Basically I want to use an external hdd to put my photos and then have another hdd to backup them. The backup disk that I was thinking about was an internal one which I would use it with a SATA to USB cable in order to pass the photos.

I am have been researching about this and there are no concrete information about this. Read about NAS but it is something that I am not interested.
When searching for internal hdd I have noticed that nowadays there are different colours, in this I am talking about the WD hdd which is the one I am interested on. I was finding myself asking if we could use any colour for this purpose? Even for normal usage could I use a red (nas) or purple (cctv) to use it in a normal desktop?

Thinking logically, NAS hdd are supposed to be reliable because they have to working 24/7. So probably it will be best to acquire one of these to perform my hand-backups. Since this will not be connected all the time I would expect that their readability would increase a lot. The only times I would use them would be only to backup the photos. But I am not sure if it is the best option hence asking for some help here.

Can you guys help me out decide what's best?

For the external hdd I was thinking about going for the 4TB WD elements. What do you guys make of it? Is it reliable?

Any comments are welcome and suggestions as well.

All the best.

I'm completely failing to see why you'd want to do this.

If you want to connect drives via USB buy external drives. The drives inside the enclosure aren't any different and they'll probably be cheaper than your internal drive + USB adapter option.

Because I was assuming that the internal ones, like the ones of WB red, black and purple are much more reliable than the normal external ones. Cheaper for same performance at the very least.

What amount of photos are you talking about?
As using a solid state drive should be faster
Even usb flash drives as long as you choose the right one would be faster~though depends how many gb of photos if that would be a viable option

Even seen external M2 drives now
Though probably need a USB type c gen 2 port on your motherboard to get the most out of that
a tb ssd is probably around £100 at the moment
And never had a ssd fail on me yet but had plenty mechanical drives fail

If they are irreplaceable photos 2 local backups and 1 off site backup would be a good idea
