HDD for PS3

Would go for the Western Digital Scorpio Black myself but OcUK don't seem to have these in stock at the moment. Can't go wrong with Western Digital imo :)

I put a 7200 drive in mine (320GB IIRC) but it makes no noticeable difference in loading times. If its the same price within a pound or two then do it though.

Knowing nothing about consoles, do SSDs work? Obviously you'd have to get one with a good garbage collection etc as no TRIM.. but it'd be faster surely?

Yes SSDs work, but my understanding of the PS3 architecture suggests it's not worth the money as it would be limited the Bluray drive and probably the disk controller, but if someone has tried it and had good results I'd like to hear :)

Thanks Duke, useful to know however as philtor has pointed out OcUK don't seem to have the Black atm.

Ive tried a Vertex 2 60GB in my PS3,And although it does seem slightly faster when installing games,Its not a huge diffrence to be honest,It seems as if the SSD is been hold back.

I went back to the standard 160GB drive.

Thanks for the info. That would make sense based on my understanding of the internals of the PS3. Standard drive it is :)
