HDD not ejected properly

Base m4 Mac mini. Seagate 8tb external hdd.

I get the error ‘hdd not ejected properly’. The seagate gets its power from the USB port, so thinking that the USB port doesn’t provide enough power I bought a Ugreen docking station with its own 145w power supply and plugged the Seagate into that. I still get the occasional same issue.

The only thing I can think of is to shuck the Seagate, and put it in a mains powered enclosure, as both devices seem to be too feeble to supply enough power.

Any other suggestions?

Be careful with this as it could lead to data corruption. Have you tired a different usb cable ?

Is it a mechanical drive? I wouldn’t think a USB port would be able to power that.

The USB cable is hardwired to the external hdd.

It is a mechanical. It looks like I will have to shuck it and use a powered enclosure.

Unless it has some kind of power delivery circuit that is supposed to request the required amount of power needed to power the drive, and considering that the OP stated in another thread that it has a type C connection I'm guessing that either the PD system on the drive has malfunctioned or the cable isn't properly wired to provide the necessary PD negotiation with the mac or the dock.

I’ve moved this over to the storage drive section. It looks like I’ll have to destroy the enclosure. (Tamper proof case).
