HDD not found when installing xp

Hey guys,

I've got a problem trying to reinstall win xp on my friends laptop.

Basically when I try to install xp it says no HDD is detected.

I have an old 98se disc which I tried. Finds the HDD and formats with no troubles.

Anyone got any ideas?

I think the problem may be that its a sata drive but the laptop hasn't got a floppy drive so I can't think of a way to install the drivers during setup.
Any ideas?

Also, I'm trying to install it from an xp disk with sp2 included. I thought this got rid of the need to install sata drivers?

It has some SATA controller drivers in it, but not all of them. Your laptop might have a non-standard sata controller i.e. one not included in SP2.

Managed to slip stream the sata drivers onto an xp disk.
