HDD Not Recognised

Been asked to try and fix a friends computer. When I try to format it it says windows does not recognise HDD. If I press D to delete partition or enter to install xp I get the blue screen of death!

Would installing a new HDD solve this problem? or could it be the IDE cable?

Anyone got any ideas???

It could be a duff HDD, what's the reason behind the PC needing fixed?

i think you should ring one of yer mates and ask to lend a hard drive if he has one spare......if not get yourself to your local computer shop and buy a new one ....you should get one for about 30 quid i think for an 80 gig
