HDD problem

Just taken delivery of a Icy Box NAS4220 and two western digital caviar RE2-GP 1TB HDD

So I connect up the drives as per the instructions (yes i did read them) but the Icy Box can only see one drive

So I figured out which drive the box could see and formated this just to be sure. Swapped the cables from the good drive to the potentially faulty drive, restarted the Icy Box and the box could not see the HDD.

So I reckon the HDD faulty

Anyone suggest anything else to check before I return the HDD

Does the drive show up fine when connected to a PC? if so then it may be the way the drive is formatted rather than the drive itself.

If your PC sees the drive when connected directly, it's a configuration issue with Icybox rather than a drive fault

I don't have a PC that will take a SATA drive so can't try that.

When powered up the drive doesn't sound healthy, I reckon it needs returning unless anyone else has a suggestion
