My HDDs are proving rather noisy in my new case, all I can hear is that rough noise when they are in operation or something is loading.

Is there something I can do or buy to quieten them down a bit?

Ive tried the Akasa Hard Drive Dampener which you can get from OCUK. However, they are not very good. They are good for cooling, but they dont dampen the vibration enough and sometimes I feel like its worse than before.

So my next move when I finish exams is to do the bungie mod, example here:

I havent tried any HD enclosures as they all seem to be £30 or more and I find that too much for something that most likely wont work as the enclosure will just transfer vibration from itself to the case anyway. Also I have 3 hard drives, so thats going to be a lot of money.

I bought some sewing elastic and that cost me £1.50 :)

Bungee cord is popular here, though you have to get quite a large amount. I got some but wasn't able to safely mount even one drive. :/

For killing noise, the Zalman heatpipe coolers are really effective; though expensive and you need to have a free 5 1/4" bay.

@ questforquiet

Have you had any overheating issues or any problems with the Scythe Quiet Drive? I'm thinking of getting one, or something similar, for my new Samsung F1 as it's not as quiet as I was hoping it would be.

I read that the F1 drives with firmware ending in '18' aren't as quiet as the ones that have firmware ending with '13'...and sure enough, mine has the '18' firmware :(

Hmmm, maybe I'll get used to it.

I've used some elastic cord from a fabric shop to suspend my drives in the 3.5" bays.. works a treat :)

They're now completely silent, and secure enough to get through my last lan party unscathed.

I have 4 bungied (if thats a word) in the front of my antec 900, I did have to do some drilling to get the holes where I wanted away from the from fans.

I would say defiantly use budgie over elastic as elastic isn't designed to be left stressed, a least I was told this and it seems to make sense.

Temps are lower than when I had 1500rpm fans (6 x 800rmp now), they've gone from around 34c to 30c now Ive done my silencing.
