hdd spin down

is the a way or software that anyone knows to manage each hard drive independently? windows is ok but i have got a few hdds and want them to spin down asap and not all spin up when i only need to access one of them. anyone know anything about this?

there is an earlier thread on this but they digressed a little without ever actually finding something.......

They shouldnt all spin up when you just access 1, cos you will never will be able to get the boot drive to spin down, and the other drives should spin up and down indepently as and when you use then.

i have one sata and one ide currently plugged in. the sata is my main drive so is always on but the ide never spins down and doesn't have any files on it that windows or i need to access. I have turned on hdd spin down but it never does it.

i also read somewhere that on ide cables if you have 2 hdds on a cable both of them spin up if you need to access one of them - this doesn't happen on sata as each one is treated independently. i don't know how true this is...................even so my drives are still spinning!!!!!!
