I have a new Seagate 500gb sata hdd. It is connected to motherboard by black 6gb(?) sata cable, in the 6gb slot. Ive only ever used smalled eg 100gb maxtor hdds.
Anyway, The hdd activity light is on 95% of the time (Im not sure if this is normal, last comp never had light connected). Frequently I would hear a click, then windows freezes for 1 - 2 seconds then a click and it restarts.
Ive googled this and answers range from Seagate being rubbish as internal whatevers make this happen, to hdd dying, to needing defraging etc. I will be defraging, then using 2 programs, 1 called quiethdd, the other i cant remember (it is meant to measure voltage and i need to look for 5% variation max). Perhaps i should use 3gb cables? (blue).
Anybody any ideas or links to specific posts on the matter?
